Model Bodoland Territorial Council, dying a slow death

No doubt, violence is crystal-clear, yet peace remains illusive. Will ‘peace return in Bodoland’-is what every common men and women talks about these days. The innocent lives are being target in the name of peace and prosperity. Probably, peace will return at the cost of innocent lives.

The recent incidents which took away more 40 innocent lives are glaring examples of rapid escalating violence in the four districts of Bodoland. Three and half years have just elapsed since the first Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) began its administration. Certainly, people expected not violence but development and peace to reign in.

A slogan ‘Model BTC’ was conceptualized, raised and reiterated aloud to bring peace, harmony and progress in Bodoland. For genuine reasons, people lent their ears as well, as they felt it should be. However, a half-way it got manipulated and redesigned to suit political interests. Very soon, people realized that it’s nothing but a mighty slogan for political mileage – a false propaganda dying fast half-way now.

Definitely, the whole concept of making BTC a model of peace and development is diminishing very fast as rampant corruption has taken its way. In the name of providing better connectivity funds are being sanctioned for building roads and bridges and various other new projects. However, half the fund is filling the pockets of handful leaders. As there is no mechanism to monitor the activities leaders have no problem getting themselves engaged in corruption.

The lack of proper infrastructures in schools and colleges in the entire BTC area is the need of the hour. Failure to meet the growing educational infrastructure will intensive the problem of illiteracy as the school drop-outs ratio is skyrocking. And before it is too late, steps need to be taken to arrest the situation by providing better infrastructures and scholarships should also be arranged to the needy students.

This is what we call 'a model BTC'? People seem losing their faith in BTC administration as the question of security, prosperity and peace is being raised. The ongoing escalating violence will only sabotage the lives of peace-loving people. Before it’s too late a little corrective steps need to be taken to bring peace and harmony which will pave the way for all round development in Bodoland.

It was nice to read your thoughts on the current situation in Bodoland. Living with the ongoing violence and the killings that take place every alternate days is like one long journey through a dark tunnel. I once heard Mr Mohilary say, "No gaisonnaini sigang, Khunthayadi gun jayakhwi be khwnthakhou jwng gwsw hwnangwn. Judi gudiaonw gun jaywbla, be nokhou gwglwinainifrai jebw gwhwanw rwikha khalamnw haaya." This means, when laying a foundation for a new house, we need to make sure that the foundation pillar (in case it's wooden) isn't worm-eaten at the bottom. If the foundation pillar is worm-eaten at the bottom, no power can hold it back from falling. Well, he clearly talked about preventing corruption. He also encouraged Bodos to get into administrative posts like the IAS, as he believed that it's the bureaucracy that rules. Is this guy walking the talk? How far has he gone to make the region corruption free? I doubt it unless I see the results with my bare eyes!

I pray to Almighty that good sense prevail upon the persons at the helm of affairs today in BTC to make the place liveworthy with peace and harmony.

we don't need a powercraving ruler,or a clever or intelligent selfish leader but what we need is a sincere, peace loving and hardworking and foreseeing the future betterment and development of the Bodo people and people living in the BTAD area. So much money is poured from central government for different scheme of development but sad to say all money is disappearing in the hand s of few selfish leaders. All the schemes for which under-taken for the development of BTAD is never seen.

A Kama Sutra in NOIDA business school. It sounds funny, I suppose. But, going by the newspaper reports, arguably undeniable. A student circulates MMS clip of 23-year-old girlfriend after she refuses to continue her relationship with him. Still fresh yet, five years back a similar type of sex video clip was circulated by a Delhi school student broke the headlines. This time it’s has been reported from a premier business school in Noida. The video shows the woman stripping to music; the man apparently captured it on a cellphone camera. Is it a hot cake or breaking news? It’s certainly a matter of that school and college students are indulging in such deplorable activities. After...
This time Valentine’s Day, will undoubtedly be known as ‘Pink Saturday’. Probably historians will have something to write upon and we have something to laugh at. It does gonna to be a big fight between Pink Chaddis versus Pink Sarees. But, nobody seems winning the battle. Neither the Pink Chaddis, nor the Moral CEO-ship Promod Muthalik, achieving anything from this useless campaign. Nevertheless, it does could promote a brand name for moral brigade Muthalik as “Moral Guru”, rather than fighting against him. I do believe, at the moment it’s a high time to create massive awareness against moral policing or any act which takes away our freedom. But I do...
Let's sing it aloud. 'On your mark, get set...go'. Well, i am not talking about a marathon race. Voiceless, were they, when Mumbai was under seige by terrorists. The reason is very simple, they act the same way and there is nothing that distinguish them from terrorist activities. They called themselves "the brand ambassadors" of the Indian culture, who don't like to see women going to pubs. Yet, it's definitely a part of our culture - everyone loves socialisation because our culture has taught us so. Shameless, nothing worth than calling so, they cannot serve even their own mother who gave them life. Can they think of something worthwhile...? The answer is 100...
Feb. 4: India's northeast is a geopolitically strategic region. Earlier, it was popularly known as the seven sisters of India and by its distinct diversity it is a mini-India with all its diversity and characters. Now it comprises eight states - Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Sikkim and is spread over a 262,179 square kilometer area. The eight states contain a total population of 39 million. The region is encircled by countries - Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, China and Nepal. However, connects to the rest of mainland India only through a narrow and tenuous land corridor known as the ‘chicken’s neck’ measuring merely 22...
No doubt, India is not at Taliban state. We live in a democratic country where right to freedom of individual has been enshrined in the constitution and by law we are guaranteed to it. Infringement, in any form of this right is punishable by law. And every citizen is empowered to approach the judiciary for ascertaining his or her fundamental rights. The Sri Ram Sena activists of Mangalore, who shamelessly molested innocent girls is against this right to individual freedom. This sort of atrocity against women is not a new phenomenon in our country. Certainly, it does call for no substantiation to justify. The mushrooming of fundamentalist groups like the Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, and...
Enough is enough; terrorists have killed more than a thousand people since the UPA government came to power in 2004. Despite repeated terror strikes in almost all the major cities of the country, the government does have an answer to deal with terrorists. The innocent lives lost and those who are injured due to terror strikes don’t have any meaning to our politicians. Every terror strike has become an opportunity for our political netas to engage in a blame-game rather than solving the problem of terrorism. In fact, it has already become the game of the politicians where they can score maximum votes. Where the government of India has gone? Is it because the government has spent more...

The demographic invasion by Bangladeshis, led to clashes between Tribal communities and migrant Muslims, have cost more than 55 lives, 100 other injured in a span of just five days in the northern Assam districts of Udalguri and Darrang. Who can save the indigenous people in Assam? I wonder. Can the government of Assam, ever hear the cry of the indigenous people in Assam? ‘More than a lakh people in relief camps, more than 600 houses burnt to ashes, more than 60 live lost – is no wonder, but the smoke and flame is on. Who is responsible for such tragedy? Every passing year, the demographic landscape is turning into the hands of the illegal Banglashi settlers. Piece by piece they are pouring into the land of the local people. Why it so? Is the state government so caring to the unwanted guests? No wonder, reality is yet to come and we are all there to experience it. The illegal settlers will become the...
