Major controversy erupts in Cachar district a day after Silchar Municpal Board chairman Niharendra Narayan Thakur replaced Mother Teresa’s portrait from the his office on Friday.

Many organizations and individuals have slammed the civic body chief for replacing the portrait. But Thakur on Saturday justified that the portrait deserves no place near Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Sources told Assam Times that Jana Sangh leader Shyama Prasad Mookherjee replaced the portrait to be justified by Thakur.
