Nearly hundred media persons with their spouses joined in a Hepatitis B vaccination camp organized by Dispur Hospital in Guwahati Press Club on 5 April 2015. The camp started at 11 am and continued for more than one hour.
Mr Ujjal Saikia, the public relation officer of Dispur Hospitals Pvt Ltd, Ganeshguri, Guwahati led the vaccination team comprising of Haren Das with staff nurses namely Anjali Bhuyan, Tina Devi, Jesmin Sultana and Bisaya Devi. The second dose of the Hepatitis B vaccine will be given on 5 May 2015 in the press club (within 11 am to 12 noon), which is necessary for completion of the vaccination process.
Caused by the hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis B is an infectious disease that affects the human liver. It can cause both acute and chronic infections. Shockingly many people may have no symptom during the initial infection. The virus is transmitted by exposure to infectious blood or body fluids. The infection has been preventable by vaccination since 1982 and the vaccination is recommended by the World Health Organization in the first day of life if possible. Statistics reveal that over 750,000 people die of hepatitis B each year.

Dozens of people sustained injury when a passenger train jumped off the tracks in Jagiroad on Wednesday. The incident took place in the wee hours when ten coaches of the Dimapur-Kamakhya passenger train toppled from the rails leaving 50 injured.
