Photographs from NE features in UN

Photographs from Meghalaya and and Assam by conservation activist, Journalist Chandan Kumar Duarah, found place in the photogaphy exhibition in the UN headquarter in New York. The week long exhibition was on the occassion of World Water Day on 22 March, 2015. One photographs shoot at a village in Meghalaya in which a Garo family were carrying spring water by pipe for their household uses. The other photograph took place in the main exhibition was shoot at Rani, Assam in which a son and father were collecting water from a swallow boring tube well.

Photographs from Meghalaya and Assam are used in the home page collage of un water for life voices. These photographs were selected for UN from among a host of pictures on the subject of water sent from nooks of the globe. The photographs on water were sent for UN- Water by Conservation activist Mubina Akhtar and Chandan Duarah.

Dispur police intensifies crackdown against the thieves who have been striking in the city a day after the seizure of a huge quantity of gold, silver and diamond ornament from a person.Marathon interrogation continues on Ajit Karmakar from whose possession these ornaments were found on Thursday.Notably, acting on the confessional statement of a thief, police conducted a raid at a room in Fatasheel Ambari area where a person Ajit Karma housed. The Assam government has recommended CBI probe into the rhino poaching incidents that repeatedly rocks Kaziranga National Park. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday said that the state government had already written to CBI for probe into the recent rhino poaching incidents in KNP. He said that it might be a big political conspiracy into the big horn animal killings, where militants are also involved. The move came 24 hours after poachers killed ome more rhino in the word heritage site. Assam had lost at least 42 rhinos in 2012, where poachers killed 21 rhinos in KNP. In this year, poachers killed seven rhinos in Kaziranga.
