SC raps Centre on influx

NDA came to power after it promised every possible measures to end the immigration problem confronting Assam for decades.

But the promises seem to have been remaining only in the papers. Even the government has not informed the court on the measures to deal with the decade old problems.

The Centre has yet to file an affidavit before the apex court explaining the steps to detect and deport the immigrants. It further was asked to detail the measures for border fencing.

A division bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice and RF Nariman has asked the Centre to file the affidavit within the next 10 days.

The court issued the directives on Tuesday when it was hearing a writ petition jointly filed by the Assam Public Works (APW) and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).
