NRC: SC snubs Delhi, Dispur

Both Delhi and Dispur have drawn flak from the Supreme Court for the measures to update the National Register of Citizens.

A division bench of the country’s apex court on Tuesday asked the state and Centre to file fresh affidavits within ten days explaining the measures to update NRC during the last three months.

Comprising Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice RF Nariman, the division bench ruled that it would monitor the progress in a period of every three months.

The court, further, NRC nodal officer Prateek Hajela to file a status report detailing the progress during the last three months.

The court issued the directives on Tuesday when it was hearing a writ petition jointly filed by the Assam Public Works (APW) and All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).
