Assam AAP disappointed

Aam Admi Party’s high voltage drama in Delhi threatens to split its Assam unit if the scheme of things within the party is any indication.

Senior leaders are quite disappointed with the internal rift in the party in Delhi hardly three months after the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP formed the government in Delhi.

The disappointment came to light on Saturday when the AAP executive meeting expelled Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan alleging anti party activities. This was followed by the exit of another ideologue and social activist Medha Patekar.

“We are perturbed and disturbed with the party leadership. At a time when the party is getting overwhelming support across the nation the ideologue duo should have been spared. It’s a sad day for us,” said Tonmoy Bora of Guwahati who joined the party last year .

Another AAP workers said the unexpected state of affairs within the party is sending a bad message for the nation. He said,” the party leadership has lost tolerance and if they insist it days are not far for the party t collapse.”

“It’s the beginning of an end. The party leadership should have concentrate on work now as the people have reposed faith on the new party. They should settle the difference within the party,” said Rashmi Kalita who has been an active worker of the party for the last one year in Sivasagar district.

Apart from these, social networking sites are teeming with disappointing messages and posts of the party men after the AAP leadership have expelled the ideologues. “We have not joined AAP of this kind. It was beyond what we thought. I am sending my resignation letter to the state leader,” said Atul Konwar from Dhmaji as Assam Times approached him on the present state of affairs of the party.

“The AAP leadership have sabotaged the democracy. Will it think of the country. If these are allowed to continue I would have no option but to quit?’” said Karabi Gogoi of Tinsukia.

Counter insurgency pays dividends: Patnaik

Governor J B Patnaik said that the government's counter insurgency operations have fetched dividends where the republic day boycott call was defied. In his address after unfurling the national flag in Khanapara in Guwahati, he said that steps are being taken to bring about overall socio-economic development in the state. Normalcy after R Day boycott call

Normal situation prevailed on Republic Day on Saturday. Trains and air services operated as usual though long distance and city private buses kept off the roads as the transport operators gave holiday to their staff on account of R-Day. National flags were seen fluttering in banks, educational institutions, etc., remained closed. Buses, private taxis and autorickshaws of state-run Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) plied as usual. Assam defies ULFA diktat on R-Day

Defying militant diktat, Republic Day was celebrated across the stat with much fanfare and cultural extravaganza. Tight security was put in place to ensure peace during the Republic Day and accordingly there was no report of any untoward incident so far. Explosives found near R-Day function site

A powerful Improvised Explosive Devices was recovered ahead of the Republic Day celebrations in Darrang district on Thursday.The bomb was found near the Mangaldoi police station and Republic Day parade ground in the morning. Police suspected it a handiwork of ULFA for triggering explosion targeting security forces. Later army bomb squad team defused the bomb.

Mizo officials, 7 others held with snake

Gogoi unhappy with army court verdict

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that the Army court had taken a lenient view of the crime. He told reporters in Jorhat that he would urge the defence ministry to review the case to ensure proper justice to the 19-year-old victim. According to Gogoi, the army court has been insensitive to the seriousness of the crime and has taken a lenient view.He said that imprisonment for only three months is far less than the heinous crime committed by the armyman.
