Guwahati to have AC city buses

In a bid to infuse more mobility in the city bus services, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today flagged off 61 number of city buses to increase plying of the government buses in the city and its adjoining areas at a function held at Rupnath Brahma Inter-State Bus Terminus in Guwahati today. 

The 11 number of AC and 50 number of Non-AC buses under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission Phase-II are the special purpose vehicles and they would ply between Jalukbari-Noonmati, Jalukbari-Beltola via Paltanbazar, ISBT-Mirza and ISBT-Jagiroad routes. 

Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that in order to put the state into a robust growth trajectory, the transport system needs to be revolutionised and since 2001 his government has been putting in a lot of importance to this sector. He further said his government has been dedicating more number of buses to the service of the state as approximately 10 lakh people of the state on a daily basis use road transport as a means of communication. 

He further reiterated his government’s commitment to improve transport system of the state by stimulating adequate government intervention in road and water transport. 

Assam Transport minister Ajit Singh while speaking on the occasion underlined his objective of revamping the transport department which has the potential of bolstering growth of the state.
