Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday tabled the state budget for 2015-16 with lots of proposal to woo the people in view of the assembly polls early next year. The deficit amount stands at Rs 66,142.16 crore.
In his budget last budget speech for the third consecutive terms on the floor of the Assembly, Gogoi holds the finance portfolio brought a ray of respite for the cancer patients.
Gogoi has scraped VAT for cancer drugs and oxygen in the hospitals. But he has hiked the price of cigarette and liquor. Now cigarette price would be up by Rs 1 per pack.
The chief minister proposed to spend the hike prices of cigarette and liquor in the health sector. He said his government is trying to discourage smoking and alcoholism by hiking the prices.
