Holy the festival of colour and joy is celeberated in and around Nazira with traditional gaiety and flavour. People from different caste and communities participated in the rally of Holly and greeted each other with colour. Some people distributed sweets on the occasion.

Continuous erosion caused by Dikhou river has now become a threat to the existence of the historic Gorokhiya Dol located in Nazira. Sivasagar town breaks into a sea of humanity as Shivrari festival enters day two on Tuesday.The entire historic town in the state is teeming with thousands of devotees from the state and outside who are catching glimpse of the three day long festival for puja offering to the Lord Shiva.From early in the morning devotees are waiting in long queue in front of the historic Shiva temple in the heart of the town to offer Mahashivratri puja.Senior district administration officials told Assam Times that arrangements are in place to ensure smooth celebration of the festival where people from the country and abroad are pouring in.Devotees from the far flung areas are getting a huge make shift camp...
Nazira All Assam Minority Students Union felicitated the newly  elected ward civic body members at a function on Sunday. Presided over by AMSU President Farukuddin Ahmed, the speakers hoped that the new members would spare no pain to deliver the goods. The senior citizens asked the newly elected ward members to work in a constructive way for the all round development of the town. BJP got 6 seats while Congress   got only 4 in Nazira and the BJP will form the next municipal board of Nazira.
Municipal elections along with the rest of the state were also held for 10 seats in Nazira and 8 seats in Simaluguri on February 9. The candidates now eagerly await the results scheduled for February 12. The Tarun Gogoi led Congress government is confident of winning all the 18 seats while the BJP on the other hand too is sure of capturing the same. While this appears to be an overstatement by one of the parties or both, the public are of the view that the Congress are all in shape to form the next municipal body in Nazira and Simaluguri. 
Civic polls passed off peacefully in Nazira on Monday. The Sivasagar district sub division held civic polls for Nazira and Simaluguri towns.The turn out is In Nazira  above 60 per cent which ended at 4 in the afternoon without any untoward incident.
The Nazira Press Club in association with the Freelance Journalists' Association of Nazira organized a programme on Wednesday in an effort to interact with all the municipal candidates who are contesting in the forthcoming civil elections. Villagers recovered a dead body of a 16 year old girl Tuesday morning from the Nahorhabi Tea Estate in Lakwa. The girl identified as Rashmi Munda went missing since January 25 under suspicious circumstances. Villagers claim the girl was raped before murder. A case was registered in this connection at the Lakwa police station.
