Film-making workshop from March 15

For film enthusiasts of Assam and the Northeast  region of the country, an  intensive workshop has been designed and developed by the Institute of Moving Images, a well known film school from Mumbai, which will be conducting a workshop at the State Art Gallery from  March 15. The classes will be held for two months on every Saturday and Sunday from 2 PM to 7 PM.

Pankaj Roy, the director of the IMI, a seasoned film and TV programme producer and director, addressing the  media persons at Guwahati on March 2, last informed that during the two months weekend workshop the members would write, shoot and edit four short films of their own and assist others in 20 student film projects as crew member. They will be taken through the entire process of film making by the IMI faculty members, who are FTII alumni and industry professional from Mumbai. They will demystify the craft of film production and challenge to master the art of visual story telling.

The participants will learn film making from the very first day and acquire knowledge  in script writing, production, designing, cinematography, directing and post production while making series of four exercise films independently and also assisting others in their productions.

The two months long workshop is targeted at students, working professionals and all those who want to learn the art of film making but did not have the right platform available in their  home town to accomplish their dream, said Pankaj Roy. The idea of this workshop is to prepare those interested in joining the extremely competitive film industry, so that those desirous of joining film making are not at a loss when they land up in Mumbai. More than 3,500 students across India have already done the IMI film making Foundation workshops so far, he said .

By the end of the programme,, participants make their final film of 20-25 minutes duration on  HDV camera. Upon successful completion of the workshop, students are awarded a certificate along with a show reel of their own film. He further informed that most of the alumni of IMI are employed in prestigious film production companies and TV channels in India and abroad.

The USP of IMI is its curriculum which is created in close coordination with high profile working professionals from the film and Television industry of Mumbai and its true merit reflects when many of IMI students’ films are regularly nominated in international  film festivals, which include Sedicicorlo  international film festival in Italy, River to River festival  in Florence and Fresh talent section at Cannes short film festival, France and as recently as last August 8 of IMI student films got nomination and 3 received awards in Kolkata international short film festival 2014, added Pankaj Roy.

GMC fails to realize traders’ woe
