Illicit liquor flooding Margherita

Illicit liquors are flooding Margherita these days. Not a single area is left in the coal town where illicit liquors are unavailable. That too in full view of a section of police and excise department officials.

Local residents told Assam Times that illicit liquors are made available in Dehing Tea Estate, Segunbari,Vineer mill Bazaar to Margherita Civil Hospital Road.

Same allegations of open sale of illicit liquor have come from the local residents of No 1 Lazum, Shyam Talkies road,Thana Road, Babul Hall Chariali road, Dhaan Bazaar, Margherita Tiniali Road, Namdang Tea Estate where police and excise department officials have been maintaining an ostrich-like role.

Talking to Assam Times, Margherita Circle secretary of Assam Tea Labour Union, Madhab Das blamed police and excise department alleging that without their tacit support how illicit liquors are sold so openly in the town.

“Actually commission matters. Otherwise, those who deal in illicit liquor would have been caught,” said Das.

Das said, “If the authorities allow these to continue we will not remain idle. We must step in to stop the sale of illicit liquor by any means.”
