Amid a pall gloom, the mortal remains of Amarjyoti Kashyap has reached Jorhat two days after the Dibrugarh university professor met watery grave on the Arabian sea in Gujarat.
Hundreds of people thronged his residence as soon as the varsity’s director of the Centre for Social Work Studies Dr Jayanta Borbora, law officer Debraj Sharma and Kaustav Kashyap, the younger brother of the deceased have arrived in Jorhat from Diu with the lifeless professor along with the members of the study team in the evening. Cremation would take place on Sunday morning.
The assistant Professor was believed to have drowned in the sea while bathing in a beach near Diu on Thursday afternoon during an outing after the completion of a study tour in a model village in Gujarat. Sources told Assam Times that Kashyap was along 17 other teachers and students who left for Gujarat for an educational tour last week.
The incident took place during a sight-seeing tour. Kashyap was bathing when he was drowned in the sea. His body was recovered by local divers and rushed to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. But only to be declared ‘brought dead’.
Various organizations and individuals have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
