Seminar on Woman Empowerment
Prerona , a social project team comprised of the students of Darwin school of Business organized one day seminar on the empowerment of women at the Parijat Academy in the Gorchuk Area on 8th April. Speaking on the occasion Ms Madhurima Sahriah , member of the Assam State Commission for woman stressed on the role of the woman commission in the state. She also said the activities of the commission and how one can get benefit form the commission. Ms Anurita P Hazarika representing North East Network spoke about the importance of the surveys and research related to woman which can be produced as document while demanding any rights of woman. She has focused on eve teasing and how it has affected woman in towns, cities or even in rural areas. The importance of woman health was well mentioned by Surjya K Bordoloi from Rural Woman Upliftment Association. He shared his experiences as he has worked in the field for more than a decade. It is to be mentioned that the Darwin School of Business has social projects through which students get exposure in the social and developmental issues. A committee was later formed for follow up programme to be carried out by the institute. The seminar was attended by many woman of the locality.

Old Boys Association, Sainik school Goalpara (OBA SSG) and Manash Borah memorial trust is organising 4th Manash Borah memorial North East Inter Institutional Debating Competition at Guwahati on 31st May. The topic for the debate competition is in the opinion of the house “a Politician’s Eligibility Test (PET) should be compulsory for all candidates seeking a political career in India”. The All Bodo Students Union , one of the largest ethnic students union of the north east has organised a sit and dharna at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on some of the demands for which the organisation is working for couple of years on 9th November, 2012. The demand includes permanent solution of Bodoland issues. It has demanded the protection of Tribal Land (Assam Land & Revenue Regulation Act, 1886). It has also demanded the implementation of Forest Act, 2006 in Assam. ABSU has urged the government for the upgradation of NRC, Detection & Deportation of Foreign Nationals and sealing of Indo-Bangla Border.
