The Assam government starts distributing the Anundoram Barooah Award to the first and high second division holder HSLC examinees from Tuesday. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi gave away the award to the recipients at a function in Khanapara in the morning.
In his address, Gogoi advised the students to take a vital lead to dress the society afresh with innovative mind and idea which, he hoped, would pay dividend in near future.
Education minister Pradyut Bordoloi, parliamentary secretary for education Rekibudin Ahmed were prominent among those who attended the function.
Comprising a certificate and a laptop, the award would be given away to altogether 40,800 first and high second division holder HSLC examinees in 2014 across the state.

Guwahati police have arrested a Maoist activist in the city on Saturday. Known as Prasanna Rabha, the youth was picked up from Udalbarka during a combing operation in the area four days after his sister was arrested.
