CM gives away Anundoram award

The Assam government starts distributing the Anundoram Barooah Award to the first and high second division holder HSLC examinees from Tuesday. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi gave away the award to the recipients at a function in Khanapara in the morning.

In his address, Gogoi advised the students to take a vital lead to dress the society afresh with innovative mind and idea which, he hoped, would pay dividend in near future.

Education minister Pradyut Bordoloi, parliamentary secretary for education Rekibudin Ahmed were prominent among those who attended the function.

Comprising a certificate and a laptop, the award would be given away to altogether 40,800 first and high second division holder HSLC examinees in 2014 across the state.

Guwahati: Finally, AASU and AJYCP have announced new regional party 6 months ahead of assembly polls. A day after a brainstorming session of the two influential student and youth organizations conveners Basanta Deka and Krishnagopal Bhattacharya said that the new party would be named as Asom Jatiya Party (AJP). New Delhi : In a major reshuffle just before the 2021 assembly polls,  AICC has replaced Harish Rawat from Assam as state party in charge.  Senior Congress leader from Punjab Kuljit Singh will take over as Assam party in charge. CWC has retained former CM Tarun Gogoi and replaced Gaurav Gogoi with former Silchar MP Sushmita Dev.
Peasant leader Akhil Gogoi urged anti BJP parties and forces to remain united. Talking to reporters at the GMCH premises after his routine check up on Monday, Gogoi said that all parties including the proposed regional parties by the All Assam Students Union should stand tall under one flag to beat BJP in the 2021 assembly poll. Guwahati: State Congress president Ripun Bora says if the party comes to power it would implement NYAY scheme where BPL families will receive Rs 7500 in a month. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Saturday, Bora NYAY will challenge Aronodoy scheme, which the government launched recently promising Rs 830 in a month to 17 lakh poor families.       Bora further said that the BJP-led government announced a slew of schemes despite bad financial condition just to woo the voters for 2021 assembly polls.
Guwahati: AGP leader and former CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati. Mahanta, the 2 term Chief Minister was admitted in the hospital following his heart ailment. Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-1) has strongly opposed the government’s permission to observe Durga puja during the endemic period and called it an attempt to appease the Hindus. In a statement, the proscribed outfit said that the government denied the permission to hold the much-vaunted Bohag Bihu apprehending spread of the killer virus and now has relaxed the protocols to observe the Durga puja. 
Guwahati: Sensing backlash in the upcoming assembly polls because its failure to ensure ST status for 6 ethnic communities, the Assam Government has announced three autonomous councils for 3 ethnic communities. State minister Chandan Brahma moved a bill for autonomous councils for Muttock, Moran and Koch Rajbanshi people which the assembly passed on Thursday. But the government, according to sources, is contemplating to appease the Ahom, Adivashi and Chutiya people since they were desperately struggling for ST status.
