2 NDFB(S) militants killed in Chirang

Security forces claimed to have killed 2 NDFB-S militants at an encounter during the rescue operation of a businessman along the Kokrajhar-Chirang inter district border on Sunday. The encounter took place in the morning at Cheleka Bazar Gwjwnpuri area in Runikhata bordering Chirang district.

Police told Assam Times that acting on a tip off, a joint team from the army and police commandos carried out an operation inside the Chirang reserve forest where the encounter took place.

The security forces, however, managed to rescue Sushil Dev from their captivity during the encounter. He was kidnapped 25 days back from Bongaigaon. Dev received bullet injury in the leg in the crossfire. He was later rushed to the hospital. A senior police officer in Chirang said that the rebels had built temporary camps to accommodate at least 15 rebels.  

Police later recovered one AK-56 rifles, one M-16 rifles, one Insas rifle, 2 pistols, 3 grenades, over 200 live ammunitions, blankets, army uniforms, pouchs, mobiles and other documents from the spot.
