Green Assam is born in Margherita

Beware tree fellers. Why don’t you allow the surroundings to go further green in Margherita? The time has come----you must stop felling trees, check soil erosion. These will only help you get a clean Dehing river---you lifeline.

The river Dehing which flows across Margherita to reach the mighty Brahmaputra is getting dirty day by day. The old river has become a garbage ground for a section of traders in the Margherita township. A group of nature lovers has set up Green Assam in Margherita to help the environment remain clean in the entire area.       

The non governmental organization was born on Sunday at the Ram Krishna Vidyapith School premises presided over by renowned social worker Dharmeswer Chetia. Addressing the meeting, President of Margherita Journalist Association Ram Prasad stressed the need to keep the environment clean and fresh in the time of global warming.  

The meeting set up a 16 member committee keeping Rajib Rudra Tariang, Barun Bora, Deepali Pujari Sinha, Laxmi Pradhan Thapa Nibha Bora as advisers.

The NGO president is Dharmeswar Chetia while Ram Prasad Ambedkar is the vice president. Chowkham Gohain is Secretary while the assistant secretary is Dolly Hussain. Organising secretary is Mithun Baruah while Sukhanto Debnath is treasurer. The executive members include Ibrar Hussain, Hrishikesh Borgohain, A Debnath Dutta, Sonali Dey, A Borgohain.

Margherita AJYCP leaders immersed the effigy of Dr Nazrul Islam on the river Buridehing in protest against the deplorable conditions in the state hospitals. Thousands of people took out a rally in Margherita on Saturday in protest against the NDA government’s policy on non Muslim Bangladeshi refugee.  The protestors represented All Assam Muslim Yuba Parishad(S) Margherita Sub Divisional Committee, Margherita Regional Committee and Assam Jatiyotabadi Yuba Chaatra Parishad(AJYCP) Margherita Regional Committee who held a huge rally near the SDO office. Acting on a tip off Ledo Police nabbed a NSCN(K) cadre from Ledo Railway Station at 2.30 pm on Tuesday. The All Assam Muslim Yuva Parishad (S) has strongly condemned the Burma Camp incident where four construction workers gangraped and killed a college girl on her way to Margherita last week.AAMYP Vice President Moinur Haque Talukdar told Assam Times said that the need of the hour is to get a new set of laws to expedite the process to give justice to the victims.
