Crisis in state BJP over land deal

Caught in a barrage of criticism over Modi’s open support to the Indo-Bangla land deal, Assam BJP leaders trying to maintain distance from the party activists.

The party heavyweight, mostly, are not reachable these days. Talking to Assam Times, partymen find it to ask their leaders to clear their stand on the controversial deal.

“We are shocked to have heard open support to this deal which we can’t buy. We have been opposing it tooth and nail for the last two years. We don’t understand why Modi stands in favour of the deal,” said Rajen Saikia in Guwahati.

Hemchadra Kalita finds it difficult to understand the state leadership who have been maintaining a studied silence on what the prime minister announced in the rally.

“Why our state leadership was doing when Modi openly supported the controversial deal? Are they prepared to accept whatever Modi wants? This is disgusting indeed,” said the BJP activist from Jorhat.

The state leadership have no immediate answer. “I doubt these bunch of BJP leaders have hardly any idea on the Indo-Bangla land swap deal. That’s why, they could not contradict Modi,” said another BJP activist from Golaghat.

The grass root level workers find it quite difficult when they are in the membership drive. “We have been bearing the brunt. People don’t as Modi and the state leadership. They ask only us why the prime minister supports the land deal? We don’t have answer.” Said Anil Sakia from Titabor who has joined the party twelve years back.

On the other hand, social networking site like Facebook is full of anger at the studied silence of the state leadership over the Modi mantra to check influx. The centre of anger in the social networking site are the five legislators who till the last assembly session staged demo in front of the Assam Assembly with placards at their hands opposing the land deal.

The party even called for a successful 12 hour statewide bandh in protest against the deal. But only to come to limelight ridding piggyback on the issue?
