Along with other parts of the state, AASU activists in Nazira staged demonstration on Tuesday in the town in protest against Centre’s support to the Indo-Bangla land deal.
AASU activists thronged the Natya Mandir premises in the morning and staged satyagraha till the afternoon opposing the land deal. Talking to Assam Times, they alleged that the Modi government at the Centre has been undermining the sentiments of the state and its people.
They further called BJP a bunch of betrayers and that they won’t allow it to happen.

Veteran Congress leader in Nazira Tonkeshwar Saikia breath his last at his own residence of Nazira Simaluguri on Thursday. He was 81 and survived by his wife, two sons and one daughter. Saikia, the elder brother of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia died of prolonged illness. Many political leaders, organizations and individuals have deeply condoled his death. 71th Independence Day was observed with traditional gaity and flavour in different places of Nazira Sub division.
