Border firing revisits Uriamghat; 1 killed

Firing is back along the Assam-Nagaland border creating panic in Golaghat district. The epicenter is again Uriamghat bordering Nagaland where unprovoked firing by miscreants left one person and seven others injured on Thursday. Sources told Assam Times that gunmen from Nagaland side started indiscriminate firing in Ratanpur area when a group of villagers were cutting crops in their paddy fields. Five people sustained bullet injuries. One of them succumbed to injuries on the evening. According to the villagers who were cutting crops, a group of 7-8 armed Naga miscreants suddenly started firing at them. They had hardly any option but to leave the spot. The incident has forced the authorities to intensify patrolling along the border. The Golaghat district administration has written to the Nagaland counterpart seeking action against the miscreants.
