Witch hunting: Tinsukia women tortured

Yet another witch hunting case sends shockwave in Assam where villagers in a remote place inflicted inhuman torture on three women alleging involvement in black magic on Thursday.

The incident took place in Tinsukia district where the women were beaten up by the villagers at night holding them responsible for outbreak of liver infection of a 14 year old boy whom police on Friday rushed to the hospital.

According to police, nearly 200 villagers confined Ratani Kadha, Mala Bhumij and Gangi Urang at a house in in Kumsang tea garden on Thursday night to be beaten up mercilessly alleging witchery. The villagers left them only in the wee hours and threatened the trio to set ablaze if the boy is not cured.   Kakopathar police rescued the women only on Friday morning.

Local residents told Assam Times that a tantric prepared the entire blueprint and suggested the villagers to punish the women.

Ayush healthcare system to train rural youths

The Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Rural Development have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop skilled manpower for the Ayush healthcare system.
