Union minister for commerce and industry Nirmala Sitharaman makes it plain and simple that the Centre has simply rejected the demand for Assam tea as national drinks.
Addressing a press conference on her visit to Guwahati on Monday, Sitharaman said that the Centre has received the demand from chief minister Tarun Gogoi and Union sports and youth welfare minister Sarbananda Sonowal but only to be rejected considering all pros and cons.
The Union minister said that the Centre will try its best to give the entre tea industry a fresh lease of life saying that the government would remove the hurdles in the export of Assam tea.
