Training on Low Cost Polyhouse Cultivation at Goalpara

A training on “Low cost Polyhouse cultivation” was organized on 7th March’ 2008 by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dudhnoi, Goalpara. Nearly thirty practicing farmers from Rangjuli, Darrangiri and Dudhnoi participated in the programme. The programme began with inauguration by incharge Mr. Swaroop Sarma, followed by ice breaking session. Course coordinator Er. Benjamin Kaman discussed pros and cons of Low cost Polyhouse cultivation, since the concept of Polyhouse cultivation is new in the Goalpara district. The farmers were been taught all aspects of low cost Polyhouse including site selection, construction, management of microclimate, plant protection aspects and recommended crop varieties and crop calendar. Er. Kaman also presented an estimate of a 100m2 area Polyhouse made of low cost 200 micron LDPE. At the end of the deliberation, economics of a year was presented considering three crops. A documentary was shown as a part of the training, which attracted and motivated the farmers to a great extent.

Mr. H. C. Kalita, Mr. Jyotish Barman, and Mrs. Minakshi Borah Kaman were the other officials present on the occasion. The officials also exchanged views with the farmers regarding other matters relating to agriculture.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. H. C. Kalita.

I would like to know more about polyhouse construction, cost of polyhouse for 1(one) bigha of land, materiel availability and supplier of the same in India.
