BJP has failed to make any progress in the by polls in two of the three assembly constituencies where counting of votes is underway. According to the trends available AIUDF candidates are taking comfortable lead in Jamunamukh and Lakhipur while the saffron party is taking a slight lead in Silchar.

 Congress trailing behind BJP candidate in Silchar. BJP candidate Dilip Kumar Paul is leading over his nearest rival Congress candidate Arun Dutta Majumdar in Silchar.

The by-election on September 13 was necessitated following the election of Silchar Congress MLA Sushmita Dev and Jamunamukh AIUDF MLA Mohammad Sirajuddin Ajmal to the Lok Sabha during the last general elections.
