The Chennai police acted on the inputs from an auto driver who was hearing the conversation between Mainool and a local tea stall owner. The victim was a teenaged boy who sit on a platform inside CMBT and went around looking for prospective buyers. He was also making enquiries at the auto stand.
The auto drivers got alerted and informed the police. Headed by inspector Hari Kumar, a police team posing as a prospective buyer, approached the man. He told him that he would give him Rs 3.5 lakh for the boy to be agreed by the man. Policemen showed him the money.
Then he came with the boy and the police arrested him. The boy was unaware of the deal. He believed that Mainool was looking for a job for him. The teenager told police that Mainool was his neighbor. He got a job in a teashop in Guwahati. But to be left unpaid. The money went to Mainool’s pocket.
He further lodged a complaint with the Assam police against Mainool alleging that he cheated him. Then Mainool convinced the boys’ parents that he would get a better job in Chennai. Mainool went to Tiruchy 10 years back and is believed to have been running this racket.
