Guitarist dies in mishap

A guitarist died a tragic death at a road mishap in Raha casting a spell of gloom in the area on Friday.

The incident took place when a speeding Indica car rammed into his two wheeler at Phulaguri at noon as he was trying to cross the four lane highway.

Identified as Lakshi Prashad Bora, the motorcyclist was a popular guitarist who was an inhabitant of Ghahi Bhaticuri village.

Erosion takes serious turn at Bhuragaon, Administration silent

Caused by the mighty river Brahmaputra, erosion takes a serious turn at Bhuragaon revenue circle in Morigaon district during the last few weeks causing extensive damages to crop fields and human habitation. As many as 30 families have shifted themselves to safer places from the effected areas. More than 200 hectres of land bearing sugarcane and jute submerged into the Brahmaputra in last week. Elephant kills villager

Talasing Hasampur (65), a resident of village Komrakata, in Nagaon was killed by an elephant at around 9.30 on Friday night. According to forest officials, a heard of about 100 elephants entered the said village in search of food. On seeing the jumbos people raised a hue and cry to drive them away. Hasampur reportedly came of his house with a lamp in his hand and did not notice the elephant. The elephant immediately caught the man with its trunk and killed him on the spot. Later, forest officials and police personnel rushed to spot on receiving the information and brought the body to Hojai.

NH 37 blockade at Roha

NH 37 was blocked by local people, AASU and other organizations against the proposed decision of the government to move the Fishery College at Roha to Kachmari, a sub-urban area of Nagaon district. The happened today around 10:30 to 12:00 morning.

ULFA cadres held

One Indra Raja alias Numal Konwar and his wife Dharitri alias Damayanti, both belong to Baghara village in Morigaon district were arrested by the police on May 1 from a Nursing home in Guwahati. According to police, the couple were undergoing treatment for malaria in a Nursing home and they both are Bhutan -trained hardcore ULFA militants.

ULFA L linkman held in Nagaon

A team of Assam Rifles 43 co. nabbed an ULFA linkman identified as Ratan Pator hails from Bamunimaidam, Guwahati, on March 26 night on part of their routine check at Woloowoni Chariali under Kaliabor Police station. Along with Pator, one Binoy kumer Singh, a member of K C P, a terroist organization of Manipur, is also nabbed. The both men were travelling from Guwahati to Tezpur in a night bus. No arms and ammunition recovered from them. The two are now being interrogated by Police.

Ganja seized, 4 held

Members of the Kampur unit AASU and Asom Shena seized two quintal of ganja on October 16 morning from a train bound for Guwahati from Dimapur. The members of the said organizations revealed that one of their companions while travelling on the train came to know about this consignment and without delay he informed the unit as well as the Kampur police. The police also arrested four persons identified as Abdul Zalil , Zakir Hussain,Joynal Ali and Joynal Miya. Later, Kampur police handed the seized ganja to Chaparmukh G R P F. The consignment, concealed in two sacks worth more than 2 lakh on the market.

NHAI officials kidnapped

3 NHAI officials Umesh Suresh Sharma, project manager, Jogaprasad Deka, Deputy Project Manager, Dhrubajyoti Choudhury, Engineer, including the driver and the PSO have been kidnapped by unidentified miscreants from Manderdisa-Hathikhali under Langting police station, Nagaon district on March 12 late night. Police told this correspondent over telephone that the militant outfit, Black Widow has denied its involvement in the aforsaid abduction and no ransom has yet been demanded by any group.

9 held, 30 packs of heroin seized

9 persons identified as Muziboor Rahman,Abdul kamal Jalil,Saidul Rahman belong to Aajad Nagar and Mahmood Hussain,Phajar Ali, and Noor Mahamaad of Shilongni were held by Nagaon police on March 6 from Chalchali , a sub-urban area of Nagaon, for their involvement in heroin business.The police also arrested Phasar Ali,Imdadul Islam and Anowar Hussain and seized 30 packs of heroin,each contains 1 gram, from their possession meant for sale among the teenagers, youths of Nagaon.The team of the police was led by Addl. D S P of Nagaon Muziboor Rahman.
