M Thousan, HAFLONG: The indefinite strike of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council employees demanding payment entered second day on Thursday. But there seems to be no immediate solution in sight.
Talking to reporters in Haflong, the agitating employees said that they won’t call off the stir unless they receive their salaries. They further told Assam Times that they have not received their salaries for the last ten months.
“We have been repeatedly requesting our authorities. But precious little have been done. We have no other option left but to sit in indefinite strike,” said DJ Hafila who works with a department of the council.
They have been staging a dharna in front of the NCHAC demanding immediate release of their salaries. “A section of our employees has turned pathetic due to non receipt of salaries for the last ten months. Nobody knows when we will get our salaries,” said another employee.
“We have withdrawn their life insurance and other savings to run our families. Our boys studying in Guwahati, Delhi and Shillong have come back because of financial crisis,” said another group of agitating employees.
