Imphal Firing, 95: lifer for 4 CRPF jawans
A Kamrup district session court on Monday sentenced life imprisonment for four CRPF jawans chargesheeted by CBI in the Imphal firing case where nine people were killed in 1995. Also they are fined Rs 5000 each.
The incident took place at the Regional Institute of Medical Science campus in Imphal, the capital town of Manipur. It took place after a shoot out on a few CRPF jawans while they were manning the Hospital campus. They responded the attack by retaliatory firing which turned indiscriminate. They are Ram Dayal Shah, Muhmmad Razzak, Shiv Kumar Pandey, Putu Lal.
On the other hand, those killed in the firing were S Premchand Singh, T Rajendra Singh, W Upendra Singh, Pradip Sarma, Muhmad Jakir, R K Khagen Singh and Moni Riba. The order to this effect was issued by the Kamrup district additional session judge while the CBI chargesheet was taken up.
