Paralyzing bandh in upper Assam

Normal life in the upper Assam districts comes to a grinding halt on Saturday following the All Adivasi Students' Association (AASA)-sponsored state-wide bandh in protest against the border violence in Goalghat district where Naga miscreants killed at least 11 local residents in Uriam Ghat this week.

Vehicles are off from the roads in Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed due to the 12 hour bandh call by AASA on Saturday.

Life in the violence-hit Uriamghat areas continues to remain crippled fearing more backlash by the Naga people. Security forces are fanning in the entire area. But more and more panic stricken people are leaving homes.

Several political leaders visited the relief camps to expressed grave concern over the incident where at least 11 people were killed.

Ayush healthcare system to train rural youths

The Ministry of Ayush and the Ministry of Rural Development have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop skilled manpower for the Ayush healthcare system. The agreement aims to enable rural youth to become a skilled workforce in the sector.
