A good number of Community Information Centre employees have staged dharna at Dispur Last Gate on Friday to press the demand for regularizing their jobs and also opposing the proposal to amalgamate the CICs with Amtron's.
Talking to reporters, the leaders of the association said as many as 438-operators working in 239 Community Information Centres are heading for an uncertain future. They alleged that despite repeated request, IT minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has yet to take take any steps to regularize their jobs. On Friday they staged protest against the government apathy towards them. The also alleged that there is move to end their identity by merging with the AMTRON"s common service centres. The Assam government had extended the service of the CIC operators last year for two more years after the five-year term expired on March 31 last. The project was launched in the North-East by the then NDA government in 2002.

Tinsukia: Army operating in Tinsukia district escaped a major bid when suspected ULFA militants tried to blow up a powerful grenade on a convoy but missed the target narrowly. Army’s 6 Jammu Kashmir Rifle’s troops were on petrol when this incident occurred. The incident occurred near Bordubi Tea Estate under Domdooma police station in Tinsukia District at 11:30PM on Thursday. Later when Army retaliated one ULFA militant was killed on the spot The deceased ULFA cadre was identified as Kumud Borah alias Jayant Moran alias Gandia of Nalani village in Tinsukia. Doomdooma : Suspected ULFA militants killed a SULFA man Pranab Moran at Kerani Gaon near Kardoiguri, under Domdooma police station at 9.30 PM on Wednesday according to police sources. A group of two to three youths came to the grocery shop owned by Pranab just as he was about to sleep. The youths knocked on the door and asked for a packet of bread. When he opened the door to give them the packet they fired on him and flew away. Military personal stationed nearby rushed to the spot after they heard firing and brought him to the local hospital. Lakhipur ( Cachar ) : Suspected Dimasa militants had killed three innocent civilians at Hari Nagar under Lakhipur police station in Cachar district on Tuesday evening. According to the police a group of 12/13 armed youths had entered the Bazaar at about 8.30 PM and opened fire indiscriminately. Three people were killed and several others were injured.
