Spotlight Majuli

Come January 26, 2015. Majuli is set to wow the world. The biggest river island on this planet could be showcased in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

If the plan is allowed to be carried on, the seat of Vaishnavite culture along with the tribal community feasting and Sattriya dance could dazzle in the country’s red letter day celebration in the capital city.

Dispur is already sent the proposal for final seal of approval from the committee of the tableau.

A 10-member selection committee comprising the state cultural department, bureaucrats, artists, designers and others met with the parties concerned who submitted their drawing board ideas.

Majuli is one of the three concepts sent to New Delhi. Two others are Bihu and Kaziranga for just 33 seconds. But rhino and Bihu have hardly any chance if the criterion are any indication.

Assam was one of the 13 states, whose tableau was presented at this year's Republic Day Parade. The tableau on Bhupen Hazarika was made of fibre glass and was 16-feet high and 40-ft long.
