The Asom Gana Parishad seems to have landed in fresh crisis. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta has resigned as president on Monday allowing the party to look for a new head.
Mahanta tendered his resignation at the party’s executive body meeting held at its party headquarters in Ambari. T he former chief minister resigned owning moral responsibility of the party’s defeat in the recent Lok Sabha polls where it failed even to open the account.
The party could not retain its Rajya Sabha seat in the polls held in February. The party’s top policy making body is expected to meet again in a day or two to elect a new president.
