This was more or less of what the various political parties, organizations and individuals said after rail minister Sadananda Gowda tabled his maiden rail budget in parliament on Tuesday.
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee said the Railway Budget has nothing new for the state and that it is full of the promises made by the erstwhile UPA government. Party leaders told Assam Times that the budget has hardly anything for Assam.
Asom Gana Parishad has alleged large scale discrimination towards the state in the Railway Budget. The regional party finds no mention of anything on important issues like double-tracking and expansion of railway network in the North East and recruitment of locals for jobs in the Indian Railways.
The All AssamStudents’ Union also strongly criticized the Railway Budget for downplaying the hopes and aspirations of the state AASU leaders told Assam Times that the budget has hiked the allocation for projects in the North East by 54 per cent. But it lacks substantial action plan for infrastructure development and double-tracking in the region.
Talking to Assam Times, Passengers Association said that the main issues confronting the state remain untouched and the vital demands of the people have gone unheard. ///

The body of a tiger was discovered in the Horonbali Chapori area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, located in Assam’s Biswanath district, on Monday.
