GMDA tough on encroachment

The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority has called the encroachment of Silsako Beel in Guwahati a criminal offence under Guwahati Water- bodies Preservation and Conservation Act 2008.

Official sources in Guwahati said that the encroachers who are found occupying such government-notified land are liable to eviction by the Dispur Circle Officer.

Any person encroaching Silsako Beel is asked to vacate the land and remove any unauthorised structure immediately.

Otherwise, such encroachment and unauthorised structure shall be evicted by force as per the provisions of Assam Land Revenue Regulation Act and Guwahati Water-bodies Preservation and Conservation Act. Strict legal action will also be initiated against such persons found violating the laws.
