ABSU convention concludes

A two-day special convention of the All Bodo Student Union (ABSU),  coinciding of the observance of the 27th death anniversary of Martyr Sujit Narzary,first martyr of Bodoland movement on Thursday concluded at Patgaon in Kokrajhar with adopting 10 resolutions including pressing the union government under the Prime Minsitership of  Narendra Modi to include Bodoland issues in its 100 days agenda,permanent solutions of NDFB problems,quality education among society etc.

The influential student union said that Assam, especially lower and middle Assam is venerable state due to illegal migrants from Bangladesh with huge chunk on tribal belts& blocks and forest land have been encroached upon including by suspected Bangladeshis. ‘Tribal and other indigenous people in the state, are under threat from the illegal migrants as their land are being encroached upon. The tribal belts & blocks, forest and government land are encroached upon illegally by the illegal migrants from across the border, Promod Boro, ABSU president  said.

Saying that the present land law is not strong enough for protection of land from illegal encroaches, the ABSU urged the govt for enactment of new land law in the state for protection of land rights of the tribal and other indigenous people of the state. The union lamented the state government and its machinery of neglecting the plight of the tribal people saying the state govt are not at all interested in proper implementation of reservation policy and rights of tribal people and has neglected the rights and interest of the tribal and other indigenous people all these years

The ABSU resolved to urged the govt of India to includes the ‘Bodoland issue’ in its 100 days agenda and  appeal the Union Home minister and department to includes the Bodoland issue in its 100 days agenda and solve the age old demands of Bodoland state for a lasting solution to the problem. 

The delegate sitting also urged the tribal affairs minister to take appropriate steps for providing Land Allotment Certificate under the Schedule Tribes and other Traditional Forest Dwellers’ (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006 saying that non availability of land documents, some of the schools have been dropped out and deprived from provincialization and other welfare projects for the ST and traditional forest dwellers people dwelling in the forest.

ABSU urged the Union govt to give special attention to NDFB’s and initiate talk with the militants organisations for a peaceful solution to militancy problem. It also urged the movement groups to create a congenial atmosphere and shun the path of violence.

The ABSU also resolved to work for protection of forest and wildlife in Bodoland region. It also urged the Union govt to retain the original name of Rajib Gandhi Orang National Park.

The student body also criticized the Assam government of neglecting the problems of Bodos medium institutions, including creation of separate Directorate for Bodo medium. It urged the state govt to  initiate steps to set up Degree colleges and upgrade the High schools to Higher Secondary as the students had to lots of hardship during admission due to lack of colleges.    

An open session was also held on the occasion with Promod Boro,president of the students union in the chair.Among others Maneswar Rabha,president of the All Rabha Students Union,Ratan Kachari,president of All Assam Sonowal Kachari Students Union,Bhaskar Deuri,president All Assam Deuri Students Union,Sanjib Kumar Hajong,general secretary All Assam Hajong Students Union were present.

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday.  Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Basumatary's quit of the party ahead assembly election would draw a set back party strength in the Kokrajhar. Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja   of Baksa district. They were actively involved in extortion, arms smuggling and other nefarious and anti national activities and Adivasi carnage in December(2014) and had run away and sheltered themselves in Chennai, till their return.
