Art competition on nature and wildlife

Art is a very effective and powerful media to depict/highlight various issues of people’s interests. Aaranyak, a society for biodiversity conservation in northeast India, on its glorious Silver Jubilee Year organizing a state level art competition,“Conservation through Colours” from May 18, 2014 in different parts of the State. The closing competition of this series will be held at Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Shilpukhuri, Guwahati on June 15, 2014. The competition will be held in three categories. Category I, Class I-III; category II, class IV to VIII and category III, class IX to XII. Interested students those who have not participated in this competition in first phase may contact at Aaranyak office latest by 12 June to confirm their participation. Participants may contact individually or through their respective school.

The duration of the competition is 90 minutes and will start at 10 am. Participants are requested to take their seat 15 minutes in advance. It is worth to mention that Aaranyak will provide only the drawing sheet, other necessary materials for the competition have to be arranged by the participants.

Category wise theme of the competition:

Category-I, theme - Free hand on nature; category-II, theme- Threatened wildlife of Northeast India; and category-III, theme - Threats to wildlife & habitats, OR Living in harmony with wildlife.

Best three drawings of each centre of each category will receive inspiration award along with a certificate. Besides, special award including a certificate will be given to the best three participants of each category on state level.

Union Home minister P Chidambaram today expressed his satisfaction over the law and order situation of Assam. Two hardcore anti-talk faction of NDFB cadres were killed at Misarai in Sonitpur district of Assam today May 24 in an encounter with the security forces. A pistol, two mobile phones and two bicycles were recovered from the slain ultras. They were not identified yet.Another cadre of this militant was killed yesterday in same district. Four rhino poachers were killed on May 21 at the Kaziranga National Park in an encounter with forest guards. The encounter took place at Mihirmukh in the Kohara range during the time of a daily vigil by the guards. One .303 rifle was recovered from them.
