Trapped girl rescued in Goalpara

SDRF team finally rescued Manashi Rabha 5 hours after she fell into 40 feet deep well in Golapara district on Tuesday. 

The college girl in Bapuji Nagar area was rescued at 8 in the morning after SDRF team launched the operation. Then she was rushed to the Goaplara Civil Hospital for treatment.

She remained trapped from 2 in the wee hours in a well after she slipped into it forcing the authority to deploy SDRF team to ensure her safe rescue.

Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. He was 98 and was accorded with cabinet rank 3 years back. Born on June 8 in 1915, Chutia cleared his graduation in science from Cotton College. His cremation is taking place on Thursday with full state honour.
In major breakthrough, Dhemaji police intercepted a truckload of IMFL coming from Arunachal Pradesh suspected to be distributed among the voters just before the polling of panchayat elections.The truck carrying 4000 litres of IMFL in bottles were seized by the excise department at Laluk last night by the district administration.The truck driver claimed that the liquor bottled at Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and were being transported to that state's East Siang district through the only road between the two places which runs through Lakhimpur district.
Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. ULFA has owned up the responsibility of the strike in oil pipeline at Makum on Tuesday. Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore ULFA militant following a heavy exchange of firing in Goalpara district on Tuesday.The encounter took place in early in the morning at Khardang near Dudhnoi bordering Meghalaya where the ULFA militant was killed to be later identified as Niyar Asom.
