New Assamese weekly released

Guwahati Mayor Abir Patra has released the Saptahik Sacheton Khabor, a new Assamese weekly at a function in the city on Wednesday.

In his address, Patra said that media can play an important role in making the people aware of the day to day happenings around the world.

He urged the newspaper group to do a strong campaign against the crippling corruption and to ensure that the corrupt officials are punished.

Addressing the function, chief editor Utpal Das said that the weekly would leave no stone unturned to expose the corruption that paralyzes public life.
“We will expose everything. We will mount pressure on the authorities so that the corrupt officials are not spared,” said Das.

The first issue of the 16 paged vernacular issue contains four top stories that speak volumns of ho corruption has become the order of the day where crores of money from the public exchequer has been looted by a section of GMDA officials.

Another story deals with an assistant registrar in the cooperation department who has been holding her chair with a fake SC certificate even 7 years after her forgery came to light during an enquiry by the deputy commissioner. Even after court order, no action has been initiated against her.
