Home coming for Chetias

In a major development that indicates an imminent repatriation of Anup Chetia, the jailed ULFA leader in Bangladesh has sent his family members to his ancestral home in Dibrugarh.

Chetia’s wife, son and daughter arrived in their home after 19 years in Jeraigaon in Chabua on Friday. Chetia’s family members said that they arrived from Dhaka in the afternoon to be welcomed by family members, friends, relatives and well wishers.

Chetia, the founder general secretary of the banned insurgent outfit has been languishing at a jail Bangladesh for the last 20 years since he was arrested on charges of illegal entry to the neighbouring country and procuring fake passport.

New Delhi has been mounting pressure on Dhaka for his repatriation. But Chetia has been seeking for political asylum in the country.

But last year, he withdrawn his petition and wanted to be repatriated to his home. But the entire case is still pending with the Supreme Court.
