Madani's peace call

Maulana Mahmood Madani meets Assam Governor
Maulana Mahmood Madani meets Assam Governor

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind General Secretary, Maulana Mahmood Madani, Sunday evening urged Muslims not to react and take law into their hands in the name of revenge. He was referring to the recent clashes between Bodos and Muslims in Assam.

A volatile situation prevails in Assam after 33 people were killed and nearly 50,000 displaced after clashes between Bodos and Muslims broke out. Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has said there was a concerted effort to start a full fledged communal flare-up. Among the dead are mostly women and children. Of the total, 31 belonged to the minority community. While Tarun Gogoi has admitted that it was the NDFB(S) which is responsible for the killings, the Home minister said these acts of violence have happened when the group was losing its cadres.

The Home Ministry has already deployed 43 companies (4300 personnel) of central armed police forces and 10 more companies (1000 personnel) are being sent. The Ministry of Defence also has deployed 15 columns of the army comprising of approximately 1500 soldiers. The violence has so far claimed lives in three Bodo- dominated districts- Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baska in last three days. The State Government has sought an NIA probe. The CM has promised to hunt down the culprits. Speaking to reporters Maulana Mahmood Madani appealed Muslims to abide by law. He promised justice would  be done.

Speaking on behalf of the Jamiat, he said, “Whatever incidents are happening is very unfortunate and we are there with those who are in pain and the system of the country is also with the weak; so we believe that anyone who has been denied justice will get justice. We also want to appeal to our people not to take law in their hand and not do anything with a sense of revenge.”

Both the Central and State Governments are both responsible for this and how they take it is up to them. I also want to add that the alliance partner of the State Government can also be involved in this. It is the responsibility of Assam government to clear their point that why they have taken the support of such people due to which minorities and Muslims are in danger, he added.

India is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious country. But under the leadership of PM Modi, the government is all up to provide Indian citizenship to illegal migrants on the basis of religion.
