Re-poll turn out 76.41% in Kokrajhar



Re-poll in nine polling stations in Kokrajhar parliamentary seat under 28-Gossaigaon and 29-Kokrajhar West constituency was recorded turn of over 76.41 percent which was held on Sunday amidst tight security where poll violence took place during third and final phase of Lok Sabha election on April 24.
People were seeing slowly coming out to cast their votes after morning downpours.
The re-polling are being held in 313 Harbhanga LP School, 181 Harbhanga LP School, 192 and 193 Balapara LP Schools, 187 Jamutari LP School, 185 Bamunigaon LP School, 182 Madhujhar LP School and 307 Balapara JB School under 29-Kokrajhar West and 155 Nilaijhora LP School under 28-Gossaigaon constituency, where polling were stopped due to violence when the elections were held on April 24 last.

A police constable died and three others injured at Harabangha when miscreants suspected to be supporters of independent candidate Naba Kumar Sarania attacked the police personnels on poll duty.

Meanwhile, Police detained fifty persons along with vehicles including  Moinuddin Sheik, president of Kokrajhar district All BTC Minority Students Union (ABMSU) and supporters of Independent candidate Naba Kumar
Sarania(Hira),backed by Janagostiya Aikhya Mancha on Sunday during the re-polling of parliamentary election for No. 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency at Jamunatari village while they were on moving in the polling booths under Kokrajhar west Assembly segment in Kokrajhar. BTAD IGP, L R Bishnoi said they have made adequate arrangement in the polling stations where re-poll are being held to thwart any unwanted situation. He said the peoples are detained for violating of election model code of conduct. He said the security forces belonging to Assam police and CRPF detained the supporters of Sarania this afternoon around 12 while they were moving in non permit vehicles.  He said the re-polling in nine polling booths were conducted in tight security arrangement and passed off peaceful by 5 pm under Kokrajhar west and Gossaigaon Assembly segment.
