Re-poll on April 27 in Kokrajhar

The re-polling in nine polling centres  wil be held on April 27 in Gossaigaon sub-division for the No. 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency fall under 28-Gossaigaon and 29-Kokrajhar West constituency where poll violence took place on Thursday.

A highly placed sources from election office said that the re-polling would be held in nine centres including 313 Harbhanga LP School, 181 Harbhanga LP School, 192 and 193 Balapara LP Schools, 187 Jamunatari LP School and 185 Bamunigaon LP School, 182 Madhujhar LP School and 307 Balapara JB School under 29-Kokrajhar West and 155 Nilaijhora LP School under 28-Gossaigaon Assembly segment on April 27. There is no re-poll under 30-Kokrajhar East and 31-Sidli LAC as well as other segments as elections in these constituencies were passed off peacefully. The re-poll would be held due to snatching of EVM machines by miscreants’, interruptions and capturing of booth etc. during election on the third and final phase in the state.

It may be mentioned that the poll related violence claimed life of a constable at Tusibil under 29-Kokrajhar constituency where a police personnel Pinku Ronghang (24) hailing from Karbi Anglong who was on election duty at No. 131 Harbhanga LP School in Gossaigaon sub-division of the district died while the irate electors beaten him to death on April 24 at 11 am. Two other police personnel Nareswar Ray of Kokrajhar Dimalgaon and Sector Officer Unish Ali of Pathsala, Barpeta received serious injuries while Havilder Pradip Ray received minor injuries from police personnel on duty 8th Battalion.

In connection with the killing of a police personel Pingku Ronghang at Tulsibil yesterday, police arrested six persons from the area identified as Roshidul Islam (26) Abul ullah Sk (24) Rakibul Islam (19) Hobibul Islam (19) Rezak Ali (41). Police also recovered one looted arms and 15 live ammu of Constable Nareswar Ray during search operation from nearby jungles.


‘A vigil security will be tighten area during re-polling’, said a senior police officer Gossaigaon.
It need to be mentioned that despite arisen of poll related violence at Harbhnaga in Tulsibil area on Thursday,  the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency was recorded turn of 77.74 percent of poll.

Former president of Kokrajhar district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party, Binati Bala Basumatary resigned from her party membership on Monday.  Basumatary submitted her resignation letter to the state party president citating personal reason . She was Kokrajhar district BJP president for 2011-2015, who had gained strength of the party through her strong leadership in the district. Basumatary's quit of the party ahead assembly election would draw a set back party strength in the Kokrajhar. Three cadres of the NDFB(S) were arrested by security forces in a joint operation belonging to police and army at Hakata village under Barama PS in Baksa district on Sunday. The cadres were identified as Jwangsar Boro @ KK, Mohit Mushahary and Pramod Ramchiary @ Khankari @Raja   of Baksa district. They were actively involved in extortion, arms smuggling and other nefarious and anti national activities and Adivasi carnage in December(2014) and had run away and sheltered themselves in Chennai, till their return.
