76% turn out in Kokrajhar

The parliamentary election for No. 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha was concluded with poll related violence at Harbanga under Tulsibil police outpost and recorded with 76.22 percent vote  by 5 pm on Thursday .

Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for No. 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency Nitin Khade said that in the Kokrajhar HPC there was recorded of turnout of poling 76.22 percent in 10 Assembly segments in the third and final phase of election. He said that there will be re-poll in seven polling stations- two polling stations in Harabangha and one each in Khumguri Madhurjhar, Jamunatari, Bamunigaon, Balapara I and Balapara II in Tulsibil area under Gossaigaon subdivision in Kokrajhar dsitrict. He also said that the Election Commission of India will decide the date of re-poll.

Police arrested 12 persons in connection with Gossaigaon shoot out incident  today for suspecting involvement with incident and linkmen of NSLA militants.Sunil Kumar, Kokrajhar SP said the Adivasi militants have done the incident due to nonpayment of demanded extortion from contractors of construction. He said strong operation has been carried out in the area against militant outfits and main culprits would be booked,he said adding that  interrogation is on  to the arrested persons.Mentioned be made that three persons were killed on the spot and  another was sustained injured when NSLA militant outfits fired at them at around 11.30 am.

An unidentified dead body was recovered this evening from Khujaraguri under Bijni police station in Chirang district. The body has been brought to Bijni police station.

One Pradip Basumatary (24) was arrested for extorting money from the shop owners in the heart of Kokrajhar town near Assam Oil Petrol pump on Friday. Police said that two fake NDFB (S) were demanding Rs 17 lakhs from the shop owner.Police sources said that the two extortionists came in Kokrajhar town for collecting money from the shops and had prior information about their movement.Basumatary was arrested and another Daoki escaped from the spot, police said.Police also claimed to have recovered six live ammunition from the person. Basumatary claimed that they had come to collect money from the shops.
