Polling has ended with a brisk note in Barpeta as soon as the clock struck at 5 in the evening. The turn out is set to cross 85 per cent to be confirmed by the country’s poll panel.
Heavy turn out of voters in this crucial constituency have sealed the fate of candidates after the poll was conducted in 1906 booths.
Sitting MP and Congress candidate Ismile Hussain is facing a keen contest with AIUDF candidate Sirajuddin Ajmal while BJP candidate Chandra Mohan Patowary and his AGP rival and former party colleague Phani Bhushan Chaudhury have been enjoying no less popularity and support.
Counting will take place on May 16.
