PM coming to cast vote

Dispur turns into a security fortress a day before the third and final phase of Lok Sabha polls. Dispur Govt HS School seems to have drawn maximum concentration of the security forces.

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is all set to visit the school to exercise his franchise on Thursday. Dr Singh, who is on his last visit to the state as a prime minister, is scheduled to arrive in Guwahati Airport at 12 noon by a special plane.

Then Dr Singh, who represents Assam in the Rajya Sabha, will straightly leave for Dispur by a helicopter where he would cast his vote at the Dispur Govt HS School at around 12-30.

During his brief visit to the capital city, Dr Singh will meet chief minister Tarun Gogoi and state Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita.

A team of special protection group has already arrived in the school premises to ensure safety and security of the prime minister whom Assam adopted in 1991.

Cost of PM and his family visit for casting vote in Assam msut be recover from his personal account as voter has to trevel to electoral booth at own cost/vehical as per the People Representation Act, there is no provisin of TA/DA/others allowances to voter for casting their votes

Tribute to martyr

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday paid tributes to freedom fighter Swahid Kushal Konwar on the occasion of his 70th death anniversary at Nehru Park in Guwahati. Gogoi paid floral tributes at the statue of the freedom fighter from Assam who had laid down his life for the freedom of the country. Heatwave toll goes up to 11 on Thursday after three persons person died of heatstroke in Goalpara on Thursday. Before that two persons died in Bokakhat and Gohpur. A street dweller was killed in the heat on Wednesday. The body was found under the Ulubari flyover. Apart from him, a 70-year-old man, Sibulal Rabidas, died in the heatwave at Lalamukh Tea Garden in Hailakandi district. A 65-year-old man died of heatstroke in the Labourputa area of Cachar district. In Nagaon district, one person died due to the heat. But there is no sig of any relief on Thursday. Guwahati is set to break 33 year old record on Thursday.

No relief from heat

The regional meteorological centre in Guwahati recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8°C on Wednesday. It predicts hardly any relief during the next 48 hours. Schools and colleges are remaining closed under the impact of the heat-wave. The Kamrup (Metro) district administration has instructed schools across Guwahati to remain shut on Thursday and Friday.

Gogoi to continue as CM: AICC

Amid growing revolt against Tarun Gogoi, AICC has ruled out a change in the chief ministership which has downplayed the dissidence.Party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary told reporters in Delhi, “some people have certain views. They have come here to voice those.
