Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said on Monday that art and culture cannot be confined to a particular state or area as Assam is proud of its unity in diversity.
Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a bihu function at Latasheel Playground in the morning, Gogoi said that the performers have every right to perform in any language in the bihu functions.
“Nobody can stop them from performing even Hindi songs. Accordingly, no performer will abide by a diktat if somebody passes,” said the chief minister before hoisting the flag of the festival.
Gogoi’s comment assumed significant three days after ULFA-I asked the artists not to perform Hindi songs in the bihu functions.
