Recording a huge turn out of voters, the polling in Diphu Lok Sabha constituency ended in the afternoon on Saturday.
The voting took place at 1006 booths where the fate of 6 candidates is sealed in the electronic voting machines. The turn out was expectedly high---68 per cent.
The authorities have identified 54 booths as hyper sensitive along with 233 very sensitive and 412 sensitive.
As many as 17 companies of security forces have been deployed in the constituency and helicopter surveillance was conducted since Thursday to monitor the movement of militants.
In the fray are six candidates. The main contest will be between Congress’s Biren Singh Engti and the BJP’s Jayram Engleng.
