Six are in fray in Kokrajhar
A total of six candidates are in fray including BPF, AITMC and Independents to contest to the No. 5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency of which election is scheduled on April 24.
Speaking the reporters Wednesday at DC office conference hall Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar Nitin Khade said of the 9 candidates who filed nomination papers, 2 candidates Salkan Murmu of Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) and Haricharan Basumatary (Ind) were found invalid while another Dilip Kumar Sarania (Ind) withdrawan his nomination leaving six candidates in fray.
He said the district administration distributed symbols to the contestant candidates of which BPF nominee Chandan Brahma and AITMC nominee Ranjit Sekhar Mooshahary will contest on party symbols ‘Plough’ and ‘Flower & Grass’ respectively while Independent candidates Urkhao Gwra Brahma received Cup & Saucer, Naba Kumar Sarania @ Hira Sarania-Battery Torch, Sabdharam Rabha-Kettle and Sansuma Kunggur Bwiswmuthiary received Auto Rickshaw symbols.
He said the Kokrajhar district administration is all set to conduct the parliamentary election in the Kokrajhar constituency. The constituency comprises 10 LACs involving four districts like Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Barpeta. He said several committee and groups formed including three flying squad, three statistics and monitoring groups to observe election related incident.
He said that a total of 597 license arms out of 737 in the district are deposited to the respective police station as per asked under the advice of the election commission to conduct free and fair elections and the remaining are likely to deposit within a short time. He also said 18 illegal arms were seized by the administration so far.He said that the district administration is taking stern measures to avoid unwanted incidents in the district. He said that all candidates in the constituency are asked to maintain peace and unity during the election so that people can meet healthy and peaceful environment.
Sunil Kumar,SP,Kokrajhar said the security has been beefed up in the district and strong operation against militant outfits organization have been stepped up. There are 25 companies of security forces including 10 companies of CRPF, 5 of BSF and 10 of Assam police are reached in the district and three more additional companies reached. He said security measures have been beefed up and there will be round the clock security vigil in border areas including West Bengal interstate and Indo-Bhutan international border to thwarts anti-social elements from carrying out any subversive activities.
