A rare dose of good news for Congress party in Assam. Despite being hardpressed by dissidence and Akhil Gogoi factor, the ruling party is likely to get 11 out of 14 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls if NDTV opinion poll is any indication.
According to the opinion polls, Congress tally would go up by four seats----from 7 to 11 this year with a wonderful 35 per cent vote share.
The survey seems hardly any impact of Modi magic where the BJP is likely to get only 3 seats---down from 4 in 2009. AIUDF and AGP may not be able to open even an account. Instead, the regional party would have to lose the lone seat in Tezpur. BJP’s vote share is shown 25 per cent with AGP 11 per cent.

Renowned vaishnavite veteran Sonaram Chutia passed away after a brief ailment on Wednesday. Chutia died at the Jorhat Medical College Hospital at 9.15 in the evening. He was 98 and was accorded with cabinet rank 3 years back. Born on June 8 in 1915, Chutia cleared his graduation in science from Cotton College. Karimganj police on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of a youth for torturing a five-year-old girl. The five-year-old girl, who went missing on January 28 evening, was found lying in a paddy field with severe injuries near her house at Pinnagar village on January 29. Her father alleged that she was raped by the youth, who was arrested by the police on the basis of the allegation. But the youth claimed that he was asked by the girl's father to take her home but she entered a wedding function on the way and went missing from there. ULFA has owned up the responsibility of the strike in oil pipeline at Makum on Tuesday. In a statement, the outfit claimed to have used PMTD technology to blow up the oil pipeline which took place on Tuesday morning. Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore ULFA militant following a heavy exchange of firing in Goalpara district on Tuesday.The encounter took place in early in the morning at Khardang near Dudhnoi bordering Meghalaya where the ULFA militant was killed to be later identified as Niyar Asom.
